Second Scan - 22/Mar/2011
Felt sick the entire day before this scan, which unfortunately wasn't until almost 5 o'clock in the afternoon. Made for a long, long day...
Had a huge surprise though during this one !! We saw two babies, both with heartbeats - what ?!? Definitely not what I expected at all, especially considering there was definitely only the one last week.
Baby A (on the left down the bottom) was measuring exactly on time with a heart rate of 130 bpm, and Baby B (on the right at the top) was measuring behind by a few days but with a heart rate of 128 bpm.
I have done a lot of internet research since that scan (which is not always a good thing) and found heaps of information on Vanishing Twin Syndrome. Seems it's quite common for there to be twins so early on, and then at later scans there is just the one and the smaller one has been absorbed back into the body. But the stories are 50/50 - some survive and it doesn't matter that they're always smaller, and the other half don't make it !! So I'm not giving up on both of them just yet, but I'm going to stay realistic and not expect too much...
